Are you feeling baffled and confused trying to understand how you can use the Internet?
Do you feel overwhelmed by all the choices you have to make, and all the new things
you have to learn?
You are not alone.
I wrote this book to help the people I meet everyday who are looking for
easy to understand answers and directions for their basic questions without having to take a college course on “Computers 101”.
I work with all ages and people from various walks of life, from teachers to doctors to authors, and college students.
They all share the same kind of problems when trying to understand how to work online.
After working with hundreds of people, I knew I needed to write a simple and easy to understand guide to getting started online.
It had to be:
Easy to understand
Use everyday language
Have some visual aids
Be a reference guide you could keep by your computer.
I meet and work with people everyday who feel overwhelmed and frustrated by their computer. They try to learn on their own, but there is so much confusing information and complex directions that they end up just giving up.
Here are some common statements I hear from people all the time about their knowledge of computers:
“I am so stupid “
“I don’t know anything”
“I don’t understand this”
“My kids know more then me”
“My computer is full of spyware”
“I can’t fix my computer”
“My computer is so slow”
“I don’t know how to do that”
“I give up”
No matter where you are at in your knowledge of computer and the internet,
you are not “stupid”.
The computer is just a hunk of metal and bits and bytes.
There is so much to learn and understand.
I have yet to meet someone who understands it all.
As fast as you may learn something, it all seems to change.
Endless updates and supposed progress that just seems to baffle and confuse.
Technology is a gift and yet at times for many of us, it can feel like a bit of a curse.
Thanks to technology, we now can stay in touch with each other around the world,
we have amazing instant information about any subject available to us as close as a
search engine away. We can pay bills and do our banking online, watch our favorite TV show, talk to each other around the world and see each other while we do it using webcams and new technology. We shop, find romance, buy and sell stocks, and we even can have an online garage sale! ( eBay, Craigslist and Amazon)
There is no doubt that the Internet and computers have been a wonderful addition to 21st century life.
The challenge for many people is in learning how to use the Internet and the computer to be able to take advantage of these tools and benefits.
